MCKINNEY, Texas — An officer with the McKinney Police Department suffered serious injuries when he was hit by an alleged drunk driver early Thursday morning, police said.
Around 1 a.m., the unidentified officer was responding to assist another agency with a foot pursuit in McKinney. The suspected drunk driver ran a red light and crashed into his patrol car at the intersection of Redbud Boulevard and Highway 380.
Police have identified the suspect in the crash as 20-year-old Ashton Montgomery. He was arrested shortly after the crash on intoxicated assault charges.
The officer suffered a head injury and was taken to Baylor for treatment, where he underwent surgery, police said. His surgery was successful, but the department has not yet provided an update on his condition.
"We ask our community to come together and pray for our officer's swift and complete recovery," McKinney PD said.
Montgomery is being held at the Collin County Jail.
