MANSFIELD, Texas — A 33-year-old North Texas man was sentenced to federal prison on Friday after pleading guilty to receipt of child pornography, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The DOJ officials said Juan Aguilera Duran was charged in May 2023, indicted in August 2023 and pleaded guilty in October 2023 for using Snapchat to inappropriately communicate with a 14-year-old boy.
According to court documents, on Aug. 13, 2022, the Mansfield Police Department was dispatched to a Mansfield home to meet with the boy who received sexually explicit messages, images and videos via Snapchat from Duran. Search and arrest warrants were obtained that later resulted in Duran pleading guilty to receiving child pornography, DOJ officials said in a release.
Duran later pleaded guilty to receiving images of child pornography on his computer.
“Our dedicated federal prosecutors are committed to taking child predators like this defendant off the street,” said U.S. Attorney Simonton. “We thank the Secret Service and Mansfield Police Department for their tireless efforts in investigating cases like this to keep the kids in our communities safe.”
“The Mansfield Police Department values partnerships,” said Mansfield Chief of Police Tracy Aaron. “This case is a testament to the great work that occurs when agencies collaborate and work together for the common good to fight evil in our community. This particular unit is established to protect our most valuable and vulnerable, our kids. Job well done from the start to the finish.”
Duran was sentenced to 210 months in federal prison. U.S. District Judge Reed C. O’Connor also ordered Duran to a lifetime of supervised release.
