DALLAS — The man who shot and killed Dallas police officer Darron Burks and wounded two other officers in August is suspected of shooting another person, Dallas police confirmed Friday.
Forensic testing linked Corey Cobb-Bey, 30, to a shooting that happened Aug. 29 in the 3000 block of South Hampton Road, in which one person was hit, police say.
“The shooting on South Hampton is now considered closed, as there are no other suspects identified in that case,” police said in a statement.
No other details about the shooting on South Hampton Road were immediately available.
Cobb-Bey is accused of shooting Burks, 46, as he sat in his squad car in the parking lot outside of the facilities of the community organization For Oak Cliff shortly after 10 p.m. Aug. 29.
Dallas Police Snr. Cpls. Jamie Farmer and Karissa David responded to check on Burks after a dispatcher noticed something was wrong over his radio and were also shot.
Cobb-Bey then led police on a chase into Lewisville and was fatally shot by police in the 1000 block of Stemmons Freeway -- about 25 miles away from the initial incident.
Farmer was treated at a hospital and released, and David was hospitalized for weeks and left blind in both eyes. All three officers were All three officers shot were with the South Central Patrol Division, sources said.
In a press conference, former Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia called Burks’ shooting an “execution.” Police didn’t provide any additional details about what Cobb-Bey’s motive may have been.
