ROCKWALL COUNTY, Texas — A man suspected of robbing and carjacking a North Texas Uber driver at gunpoint Wednesday was arrested after a brief chase with police, officials said.

The Uber driver told police she picked up a man in Addison around 10:30 p.m. and drove him to an address in the Verandah subdivision in Hunt County, police said.

When they arrived, the man pulled out a gun, demanded money, took the woman’s phone, ordered the driver out of her car and drove away in her Hyundai Tucson, according to police.

Fate Public Safety Department officers saw the stolen SUV going westbound on Highway 66 in Rockwall County and tried to conduct a traffic stop, according to a news release.

Police chased the SUV into Rowlett, where officers were able to immobilize the vehicle in the area of Miller Road and the President George Bush Turnpike Service Road, according to Royse City police.

The suspect, later identified as Cory Redic, 20, got out of the SUV and fled on foot, police said.

Redic was arrested and taken to the Rockwall County Jail. He’s charged with evading arrest, fraudulent use or possession of identifying information, reckless driving, unauthorized use of a vehicle, unlawfully carrying a weapon, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of marijuana, jail records showed.

Police said neither Redic nor any officers were injured in the pursuit.
