Man turns himself in, faces murder charge in fatal shooting of 17-year-old Dallas ISD student, police say

The 17-year-old Lincoln High School student was shot and killed Sept. 14, police say.
Officers responded to the shooting call in the 2800 block of Burger Avenue shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday, police say.

DALLAS — A man turned himself in to police for the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Dallas ISD student last week, officials say.

Rashad Mayes, 22, turned himself in Thursday in connection with the shooting of Lincoln High School student Demaryae Dequan Hill-Young, 17, Sept. 14, police say.

Dallas County jail records show Mayes was booked into the Dallas County Jail shortly after 8 a.m. Thursday and charged with murder.

Officers responded to the shooting in the 2800 block of Burger Avenue shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sept. 14 and found Young shot, police say.

Dallas Fire-Rescue responded and Young died at the scene, officials say.

Mayes' bail was set at $1 million, Dallas County Jail records show.
