SANSOM PARK, Texas — The charge against a man arrested after police say a missing girl was found in an apartment in Sansom Park last week was upgraded to kidnapping Friday, police say.
The man identified as Javier Alejandro Cruz Cavazos, was initially charged with abandoning/endangering a child, police said.
The girl’s parents told WFAA they called 911 last Friday shortly after they realized they couldn’t find her.
Sansom Park Police and officers from Fort Worth, White Settlement, River Oaks, Westworth Village and Castleberry ISD combed the Sansom Bluff apartment complex at 2900 La Junta Street after the 911 call. Neighbors and the girl’s parents helped in the search.
It’s still unclear whether the parents randomly found the girl during their search or if someone pointed them to the apartment, but police say Cavazos was arrested after the parents found the girl. The child didn’t suffer any significant injuries, officials say.
“Javier at the time was staying at the complex with another resident and is not a resident of the complex himself,” police said in a news release.
Police say they’re still investigating the incident and not ruling out the possibility of further charges in the case.
