FRISCO, Texas — Frisco police have arrested a man who ran and hid inside the ceiling of a local church after a traffic stop.
34-year-old Daniel Ryan Keith was pulled over by police at about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday after running a red light, according to Frisco PD. FPD says During the traffic stop, FPD says Keith gave a fake name to officers, but they were able to identify Keith, who had a probation violation warrant for an offense involving family violence.
Police say previous records showed Keith was known to carry a weapon. While officers waited for backup, Keith ran from the car into First Frisco Global Methodist Church at 7659 Preston Road, FPD says.
That church is connected to Friends in Christ Preschool, which was placed on lockdown, police say. According to FPD, officers determined Keith was in a separate, isolated building, so children were able to be released. WFAA captured footage of administrators escorting children out as parents came to pick them up.
Police say they tried to call Keith to have him surrender, but they were unable to make contact. Then, officers used a drone to search each room of the church, FPD says. Keith was eventually found hiding inside the church's ceiling, and officers were able to arrest him without incident, according to a statement from Frisco Police.
Keith was taken to the Frisco Detention Facility, where he was booked on an outstanding warrant from Montgomery County and charged with Ran Red Light, Expired Registration, Fail to ID as a Fugitive, and Evading Arrest or Detention on Foot, according to Frisco PD. His bond for the warrant and charges totaled $53,000, FPD says.
