Fifty-three-year-old Doyle Tipton was arrested and charged in connection with the kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl in Mesquite earlier this month, police say.

Mesquite police were alerted June 6 after they said a child initially ran away from her home and a man, Tipton, in a red minivan contacted her near the intersection of Gross Road and Ridgeview Street and asked if she wanted a ride, offering to take her back home.

Instead, once she was in the car, Tipton drove southwest -- into Dallas city limits -- more than 20 miles.

According to documents from Mesquite police, Tipton stated that he took a different route to work due to traffic on SB 635 being slow even though cameras in the area showed light traffic during that time.

The documents state that Tipton admitted to making sexual requests from the girl, to which she declined, and at one point he placed his hand on her thigh and touched her breasts over her clothing.

Following this, documents reveal increasingly disturbing details of the interaction and of additional sexual acts Tipton allegedly admitted to making the girl perform.

Tipton then stopped on I-20, removed the child from the car and the child then fled on foot for some time before she encountered firefighters at a Dallas fire station, police say.

Mesquite police began investigating and located the man’s minivan on traffic surveillance cameras in the area where the girl was abducted. They were then able to find the minivan during a search of the area where the girl said she escaped, according to a news release.

Police were able to identify Tipton, a registered sex offender, as the suspect, according to the news release.

Tipton was arrested on a complaint of aggravated kidnapping and sexual abuse. However, he could be charged with additional felonies as he currently sits in Dallas County Jail.

Mesquite Police say they were not aware that the suspect at an apartment complex just around the corner from where the abduction happened. An apartment complex just across the street from a recreation center, a baseball field, and a children's playground not at the address he lists on the sex offender registry in Quinlan more than an hour away.
