DALLAS — Editor's note: It was previously reported that Mariano Lugo's case was the 31st homicide this May in Dallas. But two of those 31 cases were actually from previous months, originally classified as unknown deaths. They were reclassified as homicides in May. So the actual numbers of homicide cases that occurred in the month of May as reported by the 25th were 29.
A 40-year-old man who was found shot inside a truck late Friday evening is the 29th homicide victim since the start of May in Dallas.
Police said Mariano Lugo was found shot inside his Ford F150 late Friday night in the 3300 block of Coronet Boulevard just north of the Trinity Groves area. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries.
Authorities said they're searching for leads in the case.
Lugo's death comes as homicides have spiked in the City. In a WFAA report Friday, Mike Mata, the president of the Dallas Police Association, said he believes crimes will continue to rise.
”Crime usually spikes aggressively as it gets hot through the summer," he said.
