Kaufman County man sentenced to life in prison for repeated sexual abuse of young children

Three victims testified that Bryant Pearl began sexually abusing them in middle school, with some of the abuse lasting until the girls turned 17.

KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas — A Kaufman County man convicted of sexually assaulting three young girls with prior convictions for sexually abusing in Dallas County in 2006 was sentenced Friday to life in prison, with no possibility of parole.

Bryant Pearl was found guilty of continuous sexual abuse of a young child, a first-degree felony.

For the Dallas County crime, Pearl had already served three years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The Kaufman County DA said despite the previous conviction and the lifetime sex offender registration it carried, Pearl repeatedly dated women who had young daughters that he would prey upon.

“This case is a textbook example of the power of grooming behavior in child sex abuse situations," said District Attorney Erleigh Wiley.

Because Pearl had prior convictions for sexually assaulting children, he was given an automatic life sentence without parole by Judge Shelton Gibbs in the 422nd District Court.

Evidence presented in court showed that while Pearl claimed to reside in Dallas, per his sex offender registration, he was actually living in a home in the Travis Ranch subdivision during the time of the abuse.

Three victims testified that Pearl began sexually abusing them in middle school, with some of the abuse lasting until the girls turned 17.

The DA said Pearl would isolate his victims from their families and convince them that no one would believe them if they told of the abuse, or that they "were a willing participant."

"It is not only the victims of abuse who are subject to a predator’s acts of grooming but everyone in the child’s life who may be in a position to protect them,” said Wiley.
