West Texas janitor allegedly created child porn with students' faces by using AI

Authorities say the janitor moonlighted as a school photographer and claimed he described his crimes as a "power trip."

ANSON, Texas — A West Texas janitor faces up to 20 years in federal prison after allegedly using artificial intelligence to create explicit content.

According to the U.S. Justice Department, 55-year-old Daril Martin Gonzales has been federally charged following an investigation by multiple agencies.

Gonzales was working for Anson ISD, which is about 150 miles west of Fort Worth, as a janitor but also moonlighted as a sports and cheerleading photographer.

The DOJ states that Gonzales would take pictures of middle and high school students for free, but then allegedly used AI to superimpose the faces of students onto adults in sexually explicit videos. He's also accused of attaching the girls' faces to AI-generated nude bodies.

After being detained, Gonzales allegedly described his crimes as a "power trip" before admitting that he viewed child pornography for up to six hours a day for the last 20 to 25 years.

"It really makes me sick to my stomach," a victim said in August after learning about the images. "I feel gross. I know it's not me, but it makes me feel gross and violated and disrespected."

In addition to prison time, Gonzales also faces a lifetime of supervised release.
