JACK COUNTY, Texas — A man was arrested after a chase and brief standoff in which a Jack County deputy was shot, officials say.

The deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop on Highway 380 just east of Bryson, about two hours northwest of Dallas, around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, officials say.

The driver stopped before driving through a pasture, the deputy followed and was met by several rounds of gunfire, deputies say.

The deputy and the deputy’s vehicle were hit, but the deputy was able to retreat and was evacuated for medical attention, officials say.

The deputy was later flown by air ambulance to another hospital with “non-life-threatening injuries,” according to the Jack County Sheriff’s Office.

Brad Clayton was arrested after a brief standoff and will be charged with attempted capital murder of a peace officer, according to the sheriff’s office.

Jail records show Clayton, 46, is in the Jack County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault against a public servant.
