Johnny Wilson is charged with murder in the 2018 murder of Charine Wilson. He was arrested in Grand Prairie after six years on the run, HPD said.

HOUSTON — A suspect charged with murder in the 2018 shooting death of his ex-wife is finally in custody, according to the Houston Police Department.

Charine Wilson's family reported her missing on Nov. 12, 2018.

Wilson's son told investigators that he was with his mom when she drove to her ex-husband's apartment on Glencrest Avenue near Broadway Street, not far from Hobby Airport, on Nov. 10.

The boy said she left him in the car and went inside Johnny Wilson's apartment but she never came back out. He told police that Johnny Wilson eventually came out alone and drove him to a fast-food restaurant in his mom's car and dropped him off.

No one ever saw Charine again after that.

Less than a month later, the Navarro County Sheriff's Office found her body in a ditch near Richland, south of Corsicana. She'd been shot multiple times.

In Feb. 2019, Johnny Wilson was arrested and charged with murder but he posted bail and disappeared.

HPD said they recently learned his whereabouts. On Monday, Dec. 2, Wilson, now 48, was arrested in Grand Prairie, Texas, by members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force and the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force. Wilson is awaiting extradition back to Harris County.
