Homeless man arrested for murder in tent city

Police have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a man in Dallas' "tent city."

Dallas Police have arrested a homeless man, living in a tent city under I-45, for allegedly killing a fellow resident.

A 911 call came in from 2600 Hickory Street at about 6 p.m. Tuesday. Police found a homeless man in his 50s stabbed to death. He has not yet been identified.

Two other people were on the scene -- Erica Halley, 43, and Bennie Charles Valentine, 55.
They are also homeless and live in the so-called "tent city," DPD said.

Police discovered that Valentine had gotten into an argument with Halley, and witnesses say the unidentified man tried to separate them. That's when Valentine reportedly stabbed the man several times.

Halley was also cut during the altercation and was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Valentine confessed to officers that he stabbed the victim and cut Halley. He was booked into Dallas County Jail on $500,000 bond and is expected to face charges of murder and aggravated assault.
