GODLEY, Texas — A Godley man was sentenced to 55 years in prison this week for the murder of 20-year-old Jaden Moblin in April, the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Spencer Gilbert II, 20, is required to serve at least half of his 55-year sentence and won’t be eligible for parole until 2051, according to the district attorney’s office. 413th District Court Judge William C. Bosworth Jr. also ordered Gilbert to serve maximum sentences for additional charges of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.

Johnson County sheriff’s deputies found Moblin had been shot shortly before 12:30 a.m. April 16 in the backyard of a home on County Road 913 in Godley that had been the site of a post-prom party and that the shooter and others fled the scene.

Moblin died three days later at a Fort Worth hospital, officials said.

Detectives identified Gilbert with the weapon and talking about the shooting in videos from the house, officials said, and police were able to track a vehicle associated with Gilbert in Houston several hours after the shooting.

Gilbert led officers on a brief high-speed chase before he crashed and was taken into custody after a foot pursuit.

Police said they found multiple firearms, including the murder weapon, during a subsequent search of Gilbert’s vehicle.
