22-year-old killed, teen injured in shooting that led to car crash, Garland police say

The victims were found in the car with gunshot wounds while nearby apartments were being evacuated.

GARLAND, Texas — Garland police have opened a murder investigation to look into a shooting that caused a car crash at an apartment building early Sunday morning.

The department said this happened on Feb. 5. in the 4600 block of Saturn Road by Northwest Highway. Police and fire departments were called shortly before 12:30 a.m. about a vehicle that crashed into a building and caught fire.

While first responders evacuated nearby residents, it was discovered that two people in the car had gunshot wounds. 

Both victims were taken to a hospital where one of them was pronounced dead. Garland police identified him as 22-year-old Quincy Lee Branch of Dallas.

The other victim, a 19-year-old from Fort Worth, is expected to recover from his injuries.

No suspects have been arrested at this time and the amount of damage caused by the crash is unknown.
