GARLAND, Texas — A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in Garland on Wednesday evening, police said.
Officers responded around 6 p.m. to the 3900 block of Roanoke Drive, near Saturn Road and Northwest Highway, where a caller had reported a man lying in the street with a gunshot wound.
Officers and paramedics arrived and found the victim, who was identified as a 15-year-old Russell Deangelo Jefferson, of Garland, according to a police news release. Garland ISD confirmed with WFAA that Jefferson attended South Garland High School.
Jefferson was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
Police identified the suspect as Cesar Rocha, 18, of Dallas. Police said Rocha was initially a person of interest in the case and when he was contacted, he turned himself in. Police said Rocha is cooperating with investigators and is facing a murder charge.
Detectives on Thursday afternoon were still working to figure out what led to the shooting, but said the victim and Rocha met online and set up a meeting in Garland, where Jefferson was shot and killed. At this time, detectives are still working to determine their relationship and a motive.
Rocha was being held at the Garland city jail. Police said his bond is set at $1 million.
