GARLAND, Texas — A Garland man has been sentenced to serve 15 years in prison after he was found in possession of more than 10,000 pieces of child sex abuse material.
Jared Capizzi, 45, pleaded guilty in October last year to one count of receipt of child pornography after first being indicted in September 2022. Capizzi was also ordered to register as a sex offender and pay $52,500 in restitution to identifiable child pornography victims, officials said.
Plea papers detail that police received several tips containing 31 files of child pornography from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which included a phone number associated with the account uploading the files -- belonging to Capizzi.
Officials say Capizzi's criminal history showed he was on parole and on bond for other felony offenses, and found his address and phone number through his parole officer.
After obtaining a search warrant for Capizzi's cell phone, police found more than 8,000 images and 2,000 videos of underage children engaged in sexually explicit conduct, officials said.
Capizzi admitted in an interview to chatting with others about child pornography, officials said, and to downloading a link containing thousands of images and videos of child pornography.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI's Dallas Field Office and the Garland Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Daniel Chung and Camille Sparks prosecuting the case. Capizzi was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey.
