RENO, Texas — A suspect arrested in connection to the July 2022 shooting death of a 63-year-old man is now charged with murder, according to the Reno Police Department.
Reno police said 57-year-old Floyd Levi Nunley is currently in custody at the Lon Evans Corrections Center in Fort Worth and is being held on bonds totaling $400,000 for multiple offenses, including the fatal shooting of Rodney Dale Tallant.
The initial investigation began on July 26, 2022, when officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of Shady Lane in Reno. When officers arrived, Tallant was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
Reno Police said as officers were conducting a sweep of the property, Nunley was found hiding in a shed. Nunley was detained pending further investigation into the crime.
Police said investigators spoke with family members, neighbors and Nunley. Police said they discovered Nunley committed other crimes related to the murder of Tallant in unincorporated Tarrant County.
Reno police said a portion of the investigation was turned over to the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, which led to Nunley being charged with three counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
The details surrounding the Tarrant County investigation have not been released.
“This was a complex investigation with a lot of moving parts and was further complicated by the number of people at the scene when officers arrived,” Reno Police Deputy Chief Nathan Stringer said. “Reno investigators did their due diligence exhausting every investigative avenue before bringing charges in this case.”
Nunley was charged with the murder of Tallant by the Reno Police Department on Jan. 17, 2023.
