PILOT POINT, Texas — A former athletic trainer for Pilot Point Independent School District is accused of child grooming, officials say.

The Pilot Point ISD Police Department says 35-year-old Javier Errisuriz was arrested on Friday, Nov. 10 for allegedly engaging in criminal conduct.

Police said on Oct. 30, the department was notified of the allegations which dated back to September 2023, involving Errisuriz and a 17-year-old Pilot Point ISD student. The district immediately placed Errisuriz on administrative leave and police began a criminal investigation.

The district fired Errisuriz on Nov. 2 after an internal employment investigation and the ongoing criminal investigation into his alleged actions.

Pilot Point ISD Police continued their criminal investigation with the assistance of the Pilot Point Police Department – which led to Errisuriz’s arrest on Nov. 10.

Errisuriz has been booked into the Denton County jail for the offense of TX Penal Cod 15.032 Child Grooming, police said. It’s a 3rd degree felony.

Errisuriz was employed with Pilot Point ISD from July 2023 to November 2023, school officials said. Before working at Pilot Point High School, he was employed at Canyon Lake High in Comal ISD and Keller High School in that district.

Comal ISD told WFAA that Errsuriz was employed from August 2020 to March 2023 and "there were no related issues during his employment" within the district.

Keller ISD told WFAA that Errsuriz was employed as an athletic trainer in the district for one school year -- August 2018 to May 2019.

Police are asking anyone with information concerning Errisuriz actions to contact the Pilot Point ISD Department at 940-686-7380 or the Pilot Point Police Department at 940-686-2969.

Pilot Point ISD is also asking anyone with information concerning any of its employees’ misconduct to report it immediately.

“Pilot Point ISD believes the safety of students and staff members is a top priority,” the district said in a statement.
