LAKE WORTH, Texas — The former Lake Worth athletic booster club president was arrested Wednesday for stealing from the organization intended to support student athletes.

Joey Wilcoxson, 41, is charged with felony theft for mishandling booster club money from 2021 to 2023, according to the Lake Worth Police Department.

The two-month investigation into the club finances began in January 2024, when there was only $3.35 in the account. Officials say the investigation showed that Wilcoxson stole from the non-profit over an extended period and refused to provide statements to the club's treasurer.

The audit revealed he withdrew more than $12,900. Police say Wilcoxson took money from the booster club and then moved it to Pearl's Saloon which is a business he partially owns in Fort Worth. Once the money was moved into his business account Wilcoxson would withdraw cash from a local bank.

He is currently being held on a $25,000 bond at the Lake Worth jail.
