FRANKLIN COUNTY, Texas — A former Dallas Stars player was acquitted of two charges of sexual assault by a Franklin County jury, court records show, but a third charge resulted in a hung jury.
Court records show the jury found 43-year-old Mike Ribeiro not guilty of two counts of sexual assault. But the Franklin County District Clerk said the jury was deadlocked on the third charge of attempted sexual assault.
It is not known at this time whether Ribeiro will be retried on the third charge.
Ribeiro was indicted on the charges last year. The alleged assaults happened on June 20 and June 21 in 2021 at Lake Cypress Springs in Texas -- one on a boat, the other on a jet ski.
The attempted sexual assault alleged took place on June 23, 2021, according to the indictment.
The Montreal Canadiens traded Ribeiro to the Stars on Sept. 30, 2006. He led Dallas in points in the 2006-2007 season and, in July 2007, was signed to a one-year extension for $2.8 million. In 2008, he played in the NHL All-Star Game. He would continue to play for the Stars until June 2012, when he was traded to the Washington Capitals.
