FORT WORTH, Texas — Five people have been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that sent a group of kids running for cover earlier this month in Fort Worth, police say.
On May 1, six people were injured outside an apartment in the 3000 block of Las Vegas Trail, including a 3-year-old girl.
The five arrested include Jamal Piper, 17, who was arrested in Fort Worth, Hayden Bates-Vellmure, 18, who was arrested in Fort Worth, Jordan Elijah Jackson, 20, who was arrested in Bedford, Allan Gilbert, 18, who was arrested in DeSoto, and Patrick Biscoe, 18, who was arrested in Dallas, police say.
Each suspect is charged with six counts of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, discharging a firearm from a motor vehicle, and one count of deadly conduct--discharging a firearm at a habitation, according to police.
“Following a thorough investigation, detectives utilized information from witnesses and surveillance video in the area that led to the identification of the suspects,” police said in a news release. “Detectives believe that this incident was a targeted shooting toward an individual that resided near this location and one of the shooting suspects.”
On May 1, police say they found six people – ranging in age from three to 19 years old – with injuries ranging from minor to severe when they responded to the shooting.
On May 16, doctors released the youngest victim Me'Chelle Kinney after undergoing multiple surgeries.
The oldest shooting victim, 19-year-old Tanzania Day, suffered a gunshot wound to her right thigh and requires crutches to walk right now.
