FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — Farmers Branch police have charged the fifth and final suspect with capital murder in the shooting death of a 50-year-old man in October 2022.
Triston Calvillo, 21, was charged in connection with the death of 50-year-old Ramon Zazpata on Oct. 13, 2022. This comes after capital murder charges were issued against Manuel Ramos, Antoni Arias, Raymundo Gonzalez and Joey Fraire as well, who police say forced their way into Zapata's apartment in an attempted burglary and shot him while he was trying to flee.
Fraire was killed by Dallas police during a shootout in January 2023 while they were trying to serve a warrant for his arrest.
Calvillo has been identified by detectives as the primary suspect in the case, police say, but fled the area to avoid arrest.
Mesquite police tried to stop a vehicle they believed Calvillo was in on June 15, police say. After pursuit across several cities, the car eventually stopped in Dallas at the South Pointe Apartment complex, where the occupants in the car tried to flee on foot. Police soon found Calvillo hiding in bushes at the complex, but he began fleeing once again on foot before being captured and taken to the Dallas County Jail.
In addition to capital murder, Calvillo was charged with evading arrest, insufficient bond for an assault causing bodily injury family violence charge and a probation violation for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.
