FORT WORTH, Texas — Outside their home, Daniel Olalde’s family spent Monday looking for comfort.
“The nurse said to tell us that before he went unconscious, he said to tell his family that he loves them,” his little sister Stephanie said.
The family is clinging to those last words after the 19-year-old was gunned down early Sunday morning at an Arlington Heights post prom party.
“I just can't believe it still something like this would happen,” Stephanie said. “I had just seen him the day before and then to have somebody come knocking at the door, and say my brother was shot.”
The party was at a home on Singleleaf Lane in Fort Worth. Off camera, WFAA spoke with the homeowner, who says her son was hosting what was supposed to be a small event. But that someone posted their address to social media and hundreds of people showed up – including those, like Daniel, who weren’t classmates. She told us those gunshots came after a group got into a fight over a game of dice and were asked to leave.
Daniel’s older sister Areli say he was in with the wrong crowd.
“You're around all these people and it just changes your character,” she said. “You're influenced by your friends, the way you talk changes. But I'm always going to remember him being this sweet little child.”
Fort Worth police are investigating the shooting and working to better understand what led up to it. So far they haven’t made any arrests.
“If you have any information on who did this to my brother, you need to speak up,” Stephanie said. “Because this is unfair to us, it's not fair.”
Cameras line the neighborhood and Daniel’s sisters say they’re confident they caught something.
“If anybody doesn't want to say anything, all right, God will find a way,” Areli said.
And through their grief, their focus now is on justice.
“He was suppose to watch me graduate, he was supposed to be there,” Stephanie said through tears. “And we're never gonna see him again.”
