The families of Linoshka Torres and Luis Campos got to look into the eyes of the man who killed the young couple.

DALLAS — The families of Linoshka Torres and Luis Campos got to look into the eyes of the man who killed the young couple.

On Friday, the family gave victim’s impact statements in court.

"Did my sister plead for her life?" said Rachel Torres, Linoshka's sister. "Did she plea for her baby? Did Luis plea?"

Nicolas Monarrez sat stoically as the family members poured out their pain.

"You took my peace, my heart, you took everything from me," Torres said.

Monarrez was given a 15-year prison sentence as part of plea deal that has outraged the family.

Nicolas Monarrez was given a 15 year prison sentence in connection to the murder of a couple in Dallas.

"I chose the word monster because you are not a person," Torres said. "Not an animal, you are a monster."

He was the ring leader and member of a notorious drug cartel who kidnapped, tortured, and beat to death Linoshka, who was five months pregnant, and her boyfriend, Luis, in January of 2007.

The young couple was at the wrong place at the wrong time when Monarrez and his two co-conspirators went out to looking for the people who stole money and drugs from them. They mistakenly thought the couple were the culprits.

"You can't tell me if a man kills a dog he gets 30 years and he kills three people and he gets 15," said Mark Garcia, Linoshka's cousin. "Is that right?"

The district attorney's office issued a statement saying there was a problem with the evidence so they cut a deal instead of taking the case to trial and seeking the death penalty.

Sources tell News 8 the lead homicide detective in the case falsified information and illegally obtained a confession from Monarrez that jeopardized the case.

“We have to pay for what other people don't do, for their mistakes," said Francia DeLaRosa, Linoshka's mother. For their mistakes."

"They said the confessions weren't done properly so they could not be used in court," Garcia said. "Wo we are stuck. We are just dirt."

Monarrez confessed to all three murders so there will never be a trial for him in the case. Some day he will walk out of prison and back onto the streets of Dallas.
