EULESS, Texas — A woman accused of attempting to drown a 3-year-old Palestinian-Muslim girl in May was back in jail Monday after her bond was raised to over $1 million.
Elizabeth Wolf, 42, was arrested again on June 27 after previously being released on bond, according to jail records.
Police charged Wolf with attempted capital murder and injury to a child. Wolf's bond was raised to $1 million on the attempted capital murder charge and $15,000 on the injury to a child charge.
Her previous bond amount set by the magistrate judge - which the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported was initially set at a combined $40,000 - was "insufficient for the charged offense, the aggravating factors and the need to protect the public," according to an order setting the updated bond amount.
The bond also lays out a series of conditions Wolf would have to meet to be released, including no contact with the victim and victim's family and staying 1,000 feet away from the site of the incident.
In a recent press conference, The Texas chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations called on state and federal law enforcement to investigate the alleged attack as a hate crime and to increase Wolf's bail bond.
“The affected family and the American Muslim community are temporarily relieved to know the alleged perpetrator is in custody again, the organization said in a statement. "We thank local and federal law enforcement for the rearrest and the progress in the case investigation."
The alleged incident occurred on May 19, 2024, when officers responded to the 2500 block of Highway 360 to a report of a disturbance between two women, according to Euless police.
Witnesses told police that a visibly drunk woman attempted to drown a child in the apartment's pool. The mother of the child stated that Wolf tried to grab her 6-year-old son and as the mother began tending to and helping her son, Wolf allegedly grabbed the mother's 3-year-old daughter and started to force her underwater, police said.
Throughout the incident, Wolf allegedly made comments about the mother not being an American and other racial remarks, police said.
Our community continues to suffer the trauma and harm caused by Mrs. Wolf’s actions, and we hope the Tarrant County District Attorney’s office prosecutes this individual to the fullest extent possible,” State Rep. Salman Bhojani, said in a statement.
