The two fugitives who escaped from the Hopkins County Jail were captured Thursday in the town of Cooper, located about 21 miles north of where they snuck through a fence and disappeared, the Delta County Sheriff's Office said.
The U.S. Marshals Service made the arrests. The men were holed up in a barn behind a house according to Lamar County Sheriff Scott Cass, who helped in the capture.
Hopkins County sheriff's Deupty Alvin Jordan said the two escapees were being returned to Hopkins County Jail in Sulphur Springs.
Brian Allen Tucker, 45, and John Marlin King, 40, escaped jail at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.Tucker is a capital murder suspect accused of strangling a man with a shoestring. King was jailed for evading arrest.
The two slipped out of sight and through a fence in the jail's recreation area. One jail staffer was watching over them on a surveillance camera, authorities said.
"They were able to manipulate the joint where it comes together, and they were able to unscrew the bolts and pry the fencing back," said Sgt. Brad Cummings of the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office.
On Wednesday, Sulphur Springs police responded to a home break in and found that a black Saturn Vue and a .22 caliber gun were each missing. Police Chief Jim Bayuk told News 8's Carla Wade that he was "fairly certain" the fugitives were behind it.
The capture comes hours after the Texas Department of Public Transportation added them to the state's most wanted list and announced a $10,000 reward for information leading authorities to their location.
