A lockdown at the downtown Dallas campus of El Centro College was lifted after at least two robbery suspects on the loose near the school were taken into custody.

The school went on lockdown late Tuesday morning after the suspects fled from DART police, officials said. Two suspects were apprehended outside the school. During the lockdown, Dallas County Community Colleges police swept the building to make sure a possible third suspect wasn't inside the building.

"We don’t believe that any of the subjects entered El Centro College," a spokesperson told WFAA.

According to DART, a woman approached officers at Rosa Parks Plaza around 11:30 a.m. and told them she had seen three men with a gun. Those officers chased the suspects and detained them in an El Centro College parking lot, DART said.

A gun was found nearby, but DART could not confirm it was connected to the suspects involved.

Dallas police were taking the lead on the case, the department confirmed. It wasn’t immediately clear where the robbery allegedly involving the suspects took place.

At 11:40 a.m., El Centro College had warned of an “intruder lockdown” on Twitter and urged students to go to the nearest room and lock down. Those not on campus were told to stay away.

El Centro College is located on Main Street between Dealey Plaza and the Bank of America tower downtown.
