'Many satanic and Nazi symbols' found at home of Dallas man accused of shooting 2-year-old girl, affidavit says

A 2-year-old girl is recovering after being shot during a DoorDash delivery, sources tell WFAA.

DALLAS — Calmness is typical for Sweetwater Drive in East Dallas, but an unusual sound Sunday night left residents in utter shock.

“I just, I heard what I thought were cars going pretty fast. It's a quiet street,” said Claire Franklin, an East Dallas resident.

Dallas police said Sunday night, they responded to the 8500 block of Sweetwater Drive where a two-year-old girl was shot. Franklin watched as the police searched her neighbor’s garage.

“I mean, everything was going on literally, I mean, 20 feet away,” said Franklin. “They had the garage open and had it lit. A lot of policemen milling around, and they were going in and out of the garage.”

Police sources tell WFAA the preliminary investigation shows that a family was delivering DoorDash when the driver almost hit a motorcycle that had a side car. They told us the driver and biker pulled over and exchanged words. When the family started driving away, sources say the motorcyclist followed shooting at the vehicle.

The family pulled over and saw that their 2-year-old had been shot. DPD said the toddler is stable and being treated at a local hospital.

According to the police affidavit, the round had entered the girl's abdomen, bounced off one of her ribs and came to rest in her diaphragm. Apparently, medical staff determined the round would have to remain there as trying to remove it may cause more harm.

“It's shocking. You know, it's tragic. I hope she's going to be ok,” said Franklin.

Police identified that shooter as 50-year-old Jason Cain, Franklin’s next-door neighbor.

Upon searching Cain's house, the affidavit said police found "many satanic and Nazi symbols," as well as several automatic weapons, and a handgun.

“I'm completely blown away that it happened here and having anything to do with my neighbors. I'm just shocked. They're, they're great,” said Franklin. “He gets on his Harley and takes his dog in the side car, and they go for like, little, you know, cruises around the block.”

Police said Cain is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.

“Something like this is not just unusual, but you wouldn't ever believe it really even happened,” said Franklin.
