DENTON, Texas — A Denton woman was sentenced to life in prison in connection with the child abuse death of her 7-year-old son, according to the Denton County District Attorney’s Office.
A jury Monday found Sabrina Ho guilty of capital murder, which carries an automatic sentence of life without the possibility of parole, and four counts of injury to a child causing bodily injury and one count of injury to a child by omission, according to the district attorney’s office.
The jury sentenced Sabrina Ho to life in prison on the serious bodily injury counts and 10 years in prison on each of the bodily injury counts, according to the district attorney’s office, and assessed a $10,000 fine on all of the injury to a child counts.
“The victim in the case suffered for weeks with multiple significant injures,” the Denton County District Attorney’s Office said in a post. “According to testimony from several witnesses, the victim’s injuries were some of the worst they had witnessed in their careers."
The Denton police and fire departments responded to a home in the 1600 block of E. McKinney Street on April 1, 2022, about a child who was having a medical emergency, as WFAA previously reported.
Police at the time said medics took the child to the hospital with “suspicious and extensive injuries,” where the child later died.
Investigators executed a search warrant of the child's home and interviewed Sabrina and her boyfriend, identified as Todd Shaw, who both lived at the residence, police said at the time.
Sabrina admitted she was aware of the physical abuse her son, identified as Phoenix Ho, suffered at the hands of Shaw, police said at the time, as we previously reported.
Shaw was sentenced to life in prison last year after pleading guilty to murder, court records show.
