Neighbors avoid gun battle crossfire after 6 people were shot in Dallas during an argument, police say

The ages for four of the victims range from 14 to 37 years old. All are said to be in stable condition.

DALLAS — Six people were injured in a shooting Tuesday evening in Dallas, police said.

Officials are still looking for any suspects involved in the shooting, which happened around 9 p.m.

Officers were initially dispatched to South Lancaster Avenue, then learned that the shooting happened in the 8200 block of Willoughby Boulevard inside the parking lot of an apartment complex.

That is near Danieldale Park off Interstate 35E and Wheatland Road.

Police learned that the victims were involved in an argument when unknown suspects shot them.

Six people were shot in total. Two males were taken to a hospital by Dallas Fire-Rescue, and the other four drove themselves to a hospital, according to police. They are all said to be in stable condition.

None of the victims have been named, but police said the four who took themselves to the hospital are 14, 15, 18 and 37.

No other information was given by the police Wednesday.

Several cars were riddled with bullet holes in the parking lot. WFAA counted at least five that were damaged.

Ciera French, who lives at the complex with her two children, arrived home just before the shooting started.

She said two groups were arguing and that she noticed some of them were armed.

French told WFAA that she waited in her car before heading in -- and then heard what sounded like a gun battle in the parking lot that lasted for several minutes.

"I saw them with guns in their waistbands -- they had extended clips," French said.

"Once I saw the guns, I was like, 'OK, I'm going to get out of here quietly.'"

French said she noticed some of her car windows were shot out when the dust settled.

"If I had been sitting in the car a little longer, the police said I would have been dead on arrival," French said. "It saddens me because my kids realized they could have lost their mother."

When a bullet whizzed through her bedroom window, Teresa Jimenez was in her apartment. Two of her husband's trucks were also hit -- some tires flattened.

"I thank God that nobody was in that room at that time," Jimenez said.

"Sometimes my granddaughter plays in that room; it's too much."

Cameras are pointing down toward the complex parking lot, but officials there told WFAA they don't work.

French said that's further proof that she should move out.

"I just need a place where my kids will be safe, and this isn't it right now," she said.
