Man shoots neighbors in Dallas following argument with his mother, sources say. Police say a person connected to case is in custody.

The neighbors were trying to intervene in the argument, according to sources. Their injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

DALLAS — The Dallas Police Department said a man shot two of his neighbors -- including a boy -- early Tuesday morning. Police have not released the suspect's name but family members have identified him as 25-year-old Marlon Perkins.

The shooting was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m. on the 3900 block of Happy Canyon Drive near Interstate 45 and Simpson Stuart Road, police said.

Sources told WFAA the victims were shot by a suspect who was arguing with his mother. According to those sources, when a neighbor allegedly attempted to intervene in the fight, the suspect left the scene, then came back with a gun and shot into the neighbor's home.

The Pleitez family, who lives next door, was getting ready for school when outside, their neighbors, a mother and son were on the ground fighting. The Pleitez family rushed in to help the mother.

"[They] came over here and helped her. He got on top of him and subdued and [the suspect] didn't care for that," said Steven Anthony, the mother's long-time boyfriend.

"They started pushing [the suspect] off and grabbing him, but then he started hitting everybody," added Justin Pleitez.

Both families confirm to WFAA the suspect left the scene and returned eight minutes later with a gun. Anthony told WFAA that Perkins drove up to the neighbor's home and opened fire. There are bullet holes in the windows and front door screen of the home.

According to police, a man and a 12-year-old boy were shot at that address, and taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Pleitez family confirm to WFAA the 12-year-old was Nazareth Pleitez and the 20-year-old shot is a man named 'Omar' -- who also lived in the home.

"Everybody feels devastated. Everybody feels scared," said Justin Pleitez.

"I apologized. I am so sorry that it even had to happen like that, that they had to step in," said Anthony.

Police said a person connected to the case is currently in custody.

This is a developing story that will be updated when more information is available.
