Teen driver killed, another teen injured in shooting during suspected robbery, Dallas police say

Police said they found the victims inside a crashed car on Easter Avenue on Sunday night.

DALLAS — A teen has died and another was injured after they were shot while inside a vehicle in Dallas on Sunday night, according to police.

Officials said they responded to a shooting call at about 9 p.m. in the 2700 block of Easter Avenue, near East Illinois Avenue and East Kiest Boulevard.

When officers arrived, they said they found a car crashed with the driver shot inside the vehicle.

The remnants were everywhere on Easter Avenue -- a car bumper, trash littered down the street and crews fixing damaged power lines

“I don't know the details on what happened and why it happened or what led up to it,” said Jasmine Corbin. “I just know that today, I'm living the nightmare.”

A nightmare that left Corbin with a totaled car and, even more devastating, ended a teen’s life. It happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday night.

“I'm in the living room with my two year old son and we're just watching TV and next thing I know, I hear a loud like really loud boom," Corbin said. "And then the lights go off immediately."

She called 911, grabbed her gun, waited a few minutes then went outside.

“There was a young man in this yard over here next door to me. He was by the vehicle on the phone and he was screaming out that ‘I need an ambulance. I need an ambulance. My brother, he's been shot. He's not going to make it. I need somebody to hurry up’,” she said.

Keymere McCriston was in the driver seat. The 17-year-old was a Carter High junior, 6-feet tall and 300 pounds, and was a standout on the football team.

“That’s very, very sad to hear this young man, he was in high school, great football player, that sort of thing. It's just unfortunate circumstance,” Corbin said.

Police don’t know where the teens were coming from, but do know they ended up in front of Corbin’s home.

“They were going about 80 mph or so coming from that direction, they hit this pole, which knocked down the whole pole, had all types of live wire on the streets, came through this way of my yard, avoided my neighbors, luckily, came through this way, skid through here, Corbin said as she described the scene. “My vehicle actually helped, the impact of my vehicle helped the car stop.”

Monday, those poles on Easter Avenue are now fixed, the power and internet back on for residents, but the sad situation is still lingering.

The shooting is still being investigated, but detectives said they believe the two teens were shot during a robbery.
