DALLAS — A 33-year-old man is facing a murder charge after a woman died weeks after he allegedly assaulted her in a Dallas apartment, police say.
Police were called to do a welfare check in the 7500 block of Chaucer Place Feb. 24 and arrived to find Lawanda Mitchell, 52, injured on the floor of the apartment, according to police. Mitchell was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
Investigators determined Mitchell had been assaulted by Barron Wallace, 33, Feb. 22, police said.
Police arrested Wallace on a complaint of injury to an elderly/disabled person and for warrants March 1, police say.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office told police Mitchell died from her injuries March 13.
Wallace remains in custody at the Dallas County Jail.
