Dallas Police arrest suspect in deadly shooting of 25 year old

Police arrested 61-year-old Christopher Peterson in the shooting death of Zachary Lawrence near Fair Park, police said.

DALLAS — Dallas Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old Thursday, police said. 

According to an arrest affidavit, officers responded to the 2200 block of Lagow Street to the report of a shooting. 

Upon arrival, officers observed the victim, 25-year-old Zachary Lawrence, being loaded into a Dallas Fire Rescue ambulance, where he was taken to Baylor Hospital. 

According to police, several people approached officers, saying the suspect's name was "Chris," later identified as 61-year-old Christopher Peterson.

Police say an officer was flagged down and told where Peterson currently was. Several officers reportedly went to the location, found Peterson and arrested him. 

According to the affidavit, a witness was interviewed at the Dallas Police Headquarters and they said they saw Lawrence and Peterson sitting in chairs next to each other. 

The affidavit states that Peterson saw the witness and began approaching them with a gun, but Peterson stepped in and a fight began.

According to the affidavit, Peterson body slammed Lawrence to the ground, stood over him and fire one shot at him. 

The witness then reportedly ran to the fire station to get help, unaware of where Peterson went after the shooting, the affidavit states. 

Another witness stated that he saw Peterson take a gun off of Lawrence's person, a fight ensued and both fell to the ground, then Peterson reportedly stood over Lawrence and shot him, the affidavit states. 

According to the affidavit, Peterson was interviewed and he told police that he had no prior history with Lawrence and that the gun went off during a fight. 

Dallas PD says Peterson has been arrested for murder.
