DALLAS — Several people turned out to Paul Quinn College Wednesday night to honor Officer Darron Burks, the Dallas Police Officer killed in the line of duty Thursday night.
Many of the people in attendance knew Officer Burks personally; some for close to 20 years since they met him on campus as students. Officer Burks graduated from Paul Quinn in 2007, the school said.
Several of his classmates and his fraternity brothers showed up for the service, so proud to have known and loved him for so long. He was described by friends and school staff as the very best this college had to offer. His fraternity brothers said Wednesday's service was especially painful for them, to have to mourn their friend on the campus where they met him.
“It is very emotional,” his fraternity brother Edward Knox told WFAA. “Because when I turn around I am expecting to see him. And not seeing him, reality sets in. That I’ll never see him again. But I’ll always have him in my heart.”
Officer Burks studied math at Paul Quinn, before becoming a beloved math teacher in the community. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday at Watermark Church in Dallas.
