DALLAS — The Dallas Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying suspects wanted for burglarizing a car in a suspected “jugging” incident.
DPD said on Nov. 8, 2023, at about 10:15 a.m., the victim left a bank in the 2200 block of Royal Lane and drove across the street to a business.
Police said the suspects seen by surveillance in a gray Hyundai Tuscan followed the victim from the bank, parked next to their car and broke into their vehicle. The suspect took the victim’s belongings and then fled the scene.
The act is described as jugging, in which someone follows a person leaving a bank with a large amount of money and then burglarizes them at their next stop, police explained.
DPD is asking anyone with information concerning the identity of the suspects in this incident to call Detective Jeff Loeb at 214-790-1836 or email jeffry.loeb@dallaspolice.gov.
A recent report by the Plano Police Department shows there were 48 instances of bank jugging in the city. In total, victims lost about $505,000 in cash.
Police released the following tips on what to look our for when you’re at a bank:
- Be aware of your surroundings.
- Never openly carry bank bags, envelopes or coin boxes.
- Watch for occupied vehicles backed into parking spaces with a clear view of the front doors of the bank.
- Vehicles with dark tinted windows with little or no visibility of the occupants.
- Vehicles with no front license plate.
- Vehicles arriving at the bank with no occupants entering the bank.
- Some juggers will stand near the front doors or go inside of the bank to watch customers while on the phone with someone in a vehicle outside.
- If you see suspicious activity at a bank, call the police.
Police said these are the things to be aware of when leaving the bank:
- Conceal any cash prior to leaving bank.
- Lock your doors when you get in the car.
- Juggers will follow the potential victim out of the parking lot. They may use more than one vehicle.
- Switch up your route (make several turns).
- Do not leave cash in your car
