Dallas police nab triple murder suspect

Jack Diwitt Hunt, 53, was taken into custody without incident on capital murder charges
Jack Hunt, 53, faces capital murder charges in connection with the shotgun deaths of three people on January 4, 2015.

DALLAS — Police investigators who linked a shotgun to the Southeast Dallas crime scene where three people were slain on January 4 arrested a suspect on Tuesday.

Jack Diwitt Hunt, 53, was taken into custody without incident on capital murder charges, police said in a statement. Bond was set at $500,000.

The shootings in the 2000 block of Ben Hur Street left three people dead and a fourth with wounds that required hospitalization.

Five days later, police said a tip alerted them to a suspicious person who lives next door to the address where the shootings took place. Detectives who interviewed that person, identified as Jack Hunt, said they determined that he had a shotgun in his vehicle.

Hunt allegedly gave investigators permission to examine his firearm, and ballistics tests linked it to the January 4 shooting.

After the shootings, neighbors reached out to News 8 asking for increased police visibility because of what they they called rampant illegal drug activity.
