DALLAS — A man was arrested Thursday in a double shooting that left one dead and another injured in a van that had crashed in southern Dallas earlier this week, police records show.

Police responded to the shooting call at the Grand Inn in the 200 block of Camp Wisdom Road and found the driver and a passenger shot in a Pontiac Montana van that had crashed into the motel on Oct. 13, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Both the driver and the passenger were taken to an area hospital where the driver died and the passenger was treated and later released, according to the affidavit.

The passenger told police in an interview that a man, later identified as Jailon Anderson, 23, approached them in the parking lot and demanded $400 at gunpoint, according to the affidavit.

The passenger said in the interview that he told the man he didn’t have any money, but Anderson persisted and the driver grabbed a handgun from under the front seat, according to the affidavit.

The passenger then got in the van and backed it out to try to leave. Then, Anderson and the driver exchanged shots, according to the affidavit.

The driver got in the car and tried to flee, but was hit and crashed into the motel, according to the affidavit.

Anderson told the passenger to throw the handgun out the window of the van, and it was later recovered by police, the affidavit stated.

Police received a tip that led them to interview Anderson, who worked security at the Grand Inn, according to the affidavit.

Security footage from the shooting also showed Anderson running to a room rented by his father at one point, according to the affidavit. Police searched the room and found 16 firearms, the affidavit showed.

Anderson was arrested for a warrant in Denton County on Oct. 16 and stopped in a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle from the shooting, according to the report.

Anderson admitted in an interview to confronting the two in the van over a $400 debt previously owed to them and demanding the money at gunpoint, according to the affidavit.

Anderson said the driver began firing at him during the confrontation and he returned fire, hitting the driver of the van, according to the affidavit.

Anderson was arrested on a complaint of capital murder by a terroristic threat and booked into the Dallas County Jail on Oct. 16, jail records showed.
