DALLAS — An affidavit for the suspect wanted in a fatal stabbing case in Dallas last month details what happened that night, with the suspect telling the victim's mother it was accidental.

A warrant was issued for Shamonick Stevenson for the charge of first-degree murder. Police first responded to the death on Dec. 19.

Police said Stevenson had stabbed her boyfriend and roommate, Marktwon Hicks, at about 9 p.m. that night. One witness inside the residence told police the two had been arguing before the stabbing about Hicks being drunk.

After Stevenson allegedly stabbed Hicks through the chest and into his heart with a steak knife, the affidavit stated she told the witness Hicks had shot himself and that they need an ambulance. Stevenson then left the location on foot before police or the ambulance arrived.

The mother of the victim, Sondra Hicks, received a phone call from Stevenson, who told her "he walked into the knife," implying the stabbing was accidental, the affidavit detailed.

The affidavit stated Stevenson called the detective hours after the offense occurred to tell them it was an accident, but didn't provide further details as to what happened. Stevenson further said she would talk to detectives and said she was at the Baylor Emergency Room in Dallas, but police said they later learned Stevenson was never at Baylor Hospital and her phone was turned off shortly after that.

After executing a search warrant, the affidavit detailed that police found a 5-inch steak knife in Stevenson's residence, with about 3 inches of the blade covered in blood. Multiple cameras were also found in the residence which may show exactly what happened.
