MESQUITE, Texas — Mesquite police said a man was arrested after leading police on a chase between Mesquite and Dallas on Saturday night.
Records obtained by WFAA show the chase started at around 9 p.m.
According to Mesquite police, an officer was initially searching for a suspect in an unrelated incident, then conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Highway 80 around Big Town Boulevard.
Police said the officer initially thought that the vehicle may have picked up the possible suspect he was seeking, but then determined the vehicle wasn't involved. As the officer was walking back to his squad car, police said another driver in a Dodge Charger "turned its headlights off and swerved onto the shoulder of the highway briefly, to act as if he was going to run over the officer."
The Charger then swerved back onto the highway, at which point police said a chase began.
Mesquite police said the chase went into Dallas, then back to Mesquite, then back to Dallas. When the driver reached Dallas the second time, police said Texas DPS was able to join the pursuit.
The car chase stopped around Lawnview Avenue and Military Parkway, where police said the driver ran into the woods on foot. According to police, the suspect was then seen a few minutes later while walking on train tracks, at which point he was taken into custody.
