DALLAS - More than two dozen Dallas County deputy constables are expected to placed on leave and could face criminal charges for reportedly falsifying documents.

County officials say an internal investigation shows 25 deputies are suspected of lying about serving citizens with civil paperwork.

County Judge Clay Jenkins says in some cases residents didn't know they were being sued or evicted from their homes.

If you had a situation where someone never went to your house, you might have been evicted before you had the opportunity to get the money together to stay in your house, Jenkins said.

I find that particularly despicable, he added.

County officials learned that some deputies were not doing their jobs after comparingGPS records from their patrol carsto daily logs of where they said they were.

The deputies are suspected of falsifying official documents in serving civil papers.

The county has not identified them at this time, but say they could also face perjury charges.

No elected constable is accused of being knowingly involved in the alleged criminal acts. The Commissioners' Court will explore the details in closed session next Tuesday.
