Armed carjacking suspect who police were in an hours-long standoff with in Colleyville has died, records show

A pursuit from Dallas that ended in Colleyville led to a 3-hour SWAT standoff Friday, sources said.

COLLEYVILLE, Texas — Editor's note: The video published above is a WFAA report from Friday after the hours-long standoff ended.

Colleyville residents in the area of Brentwood Drive were asked to stay indoors on Friday, March 29 while police worked to apprehend an armed suspect who was pursued from Dallas and fled the vehicle he was in.

According to Colleyville PD, the standoff took place Friday morning in the 3700 block of Brentwood Drive. After nearly three hours of negotiations, the SWAT team used non-lethal methods to resolve the situation. That's when the suspect reached for his gun, turned it on himself, and fired the weapon, according to a news release.

The suspect was identified by medical records – and confirmed by Colleyville PD – as 36-year-old Benjamin Randle. Randle was taken to the hospital in critical condition on Friday, but medical records showed Randle died from his injuries one day later on March 30.

Around 2:45 p.m. on March 29, the department called an end to the standoff saying the scene was secured.

Randle was wanted for aggravated robbery and armed carjacking and was pursued from Dallas, Colleyville PD said Friday.
