COLLEYVILLE, Texas — Police in Colleyville are warning the public about a phone scam where the caller is impersonating the department's chief and demanding money to avoid arrest for a warrant.
According to Colleyville PD, several calls were made this week to people where they were told by a person identifying themself as Police Chief Michael C. Miller. Chief Miller, as well as the department, took to social media to debunk this phone scam.
"In a report we took this morning, the caller identified himself as Chief Miller from Colleyville PD and demanded payment in gift cards to avoid arrest for a warrant. I’m definitely not making these calls & we would never ask for payment in gift cards or Bitcoin. Beware," Miller posted on X.
"CPD will not call and threaten arrest, and no government entity will accept payment in gift cards," the department wrote in its X post.
