IRVING, Texas — The Irving Police Department is searching for possible victims of a former resident who is accused of continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Averil Cardwell, 69, was arrested in August 2022 for continuous sexual abuse of a young child after a 21-year-old woman said he abused her when she was between the ages of three and eight.
While police investigated the initial outcry, a second victim came forward, leading police to believe there were several victims. Since the initial outcry, there have been four victims identified, dating back to 1986.
Cardwell was a longtime Irving resident before moving to Cedar Hill.
Irving Police said it suspects there are additional victims and encourage anyone whose child could have interacted with Cardwell to speak with them about it. If you know of a victim or are one, Irving Police said to contact them at (972) 273-1010.
Cardwell bonded out of jail and is not in police custody at this time.
