ARLINGTON, Texas — Arlington police officers shot a man who allegedly raised a gun in an apartment parking lot Monday night, officials said in a press release.
Officers responded to reports of a suspicious person looking into cars in an apartment parking lot around 9:01 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, in the 1400 block of E. Lamar Boulevard, near North Collins Street and Interstate 30, according to the release. Callers told 911 dispatchers the suspect may be armed, police said.
When police arrived they found the suspect, a 34-year-old man, lying on his back on the hood of a car, according to police. Officers approached and noticed a gun on the man's hip as he sat up the release states. Officers told the man to show his hands but the man grabbed the gun and raised it, police said.
"Both officers then fired their service weapons multiple times, striking the man," the release states.
The man was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
No officers were injured in the exchange.
The department's homicide unit will investigate the incident to determine if a crime was committed by the officers and an administrative investigation led by the internal affairs unit will determine if the officers violated department policy, the release states.
Both officers were placed on administrative leave.
