ARLINGTON, Texas — The Arlington Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in AT&T Stadium's Parking Lot 12 as the Texas Rangers' 2023 World Series championship parade was coming to a close on Friday, Nov. 3.
Police confirm that shots were fired at about 2:40 p.m. in the parking lot, which is located near where the parade started Friday afternoon.
The occupants of two vehicles got into a heated argument, which police said they believe stemmed from one the vehicles trying to back out of a parking spot but being partially blocked by the other vehicle.
Police say multiple people exited both vehicles and started to physically fight, an during the fight, one of them pulled out a gun and fired it into the air.
One person, 37-year-old Tommy Phonthalangsy, was taken into custody at the scene, although police said no charges have yet been filed.
Phonthalangsy was charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police say he also had prior felony convictions, meaning he is legally barred from possessing a firearm, so he was also charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon by a felon.
Police say 30-year-old Tiffany Keovilavong, another one of the individuals involved in the incident, was also arrested on outstanding warrants.
According to police, no one was injured in the shooting.
Police at the scene said they did not know if there was a motive behind the shooting.
