ALVORD, Texas — All Alvord ISD campuses have been placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon after reports of an armed suspect, the school district said.
In a Facebook post, the district superintendent said all students and staff are safe, and there is a heavy police presence on all campuses.
"We did receive a report of an armed suspect but the report has not been confirmed," Alvord ISD Superintendent Randy Brown said on Facebook.
Police said an Alvord ISD staff member received a phone call at about 3:40 p.m. from a person who said an active threat was on the way to a school in Alvord to "inflict imminent harm" to students and staff.
Within minutes, police said they had numerous officers securing campuses to ensure students were safe.
Police said there will be no additional police presence on Friday, and counselors and staff will be there to help students navigate through the incident.
It's unclear who made the phone call at this time, the Wise County Sheriff's Office said.
Brown said buses are now taking students from campuses to Alvord First Baptist Church, 205 E. Boling St., where parents will be able to pick them up. Students will not be released from campuses. The district is starting with elementary students, followed by intermediate, middle school and high school students. Parents need a photo ID to show before picking their children up.
Band performances and baseball playoff games will proceed as scheduled this ebening, Brown said.
"We have no reason to cancel these activities, based on the law enforcement investigation we have no reason to believe anyone attending these events will be in any danger," he wrote on Facebook.
This is a developing story. We will update with more details as they are provided.
