Affidavit: Godley woman shot after cooperating with intruders

Documents indicate two suspected killers chose their victim Nancy Weatherly at random after mortally wounding a Fort Worth delivery man.
A 61-year-old woman was found murdered in her kitchen in this rural Johnson County near Godley.

GODLEY, Texas Shortly after mortally wounding a beer delivery driver in Fort Worth last month, two ex-cons picked out a Johnson County home and murdered the single woman who lived there even though she complied with their demands.

That's account of the crime comes from arrest warrant affidavits obtained by News 8.

The documents say Jose Ramos and Mark Anthony Soliz found themselves driving near the town of Godley on June 29. Ramos told detectives they knocked on the door of Nancy Weatherly, who lived in a ranch home surrounded by pastures.

According to the affidavit, Soliz pulled a firearm and put it in Weatherly's face. Soliz then pushed her inside the house.

They made their victim lie on a sofa while they stole her belongings including two big screen TVs and a laptop computer.

Then, before they left, Soliz shot Weatherly once in the back of the head.

Neighbor Cody Jefferson read the affidavits and shook his head. It's the devil, he said. That's all I can tell you.

Residents say it's the kind of town where few people locked their doors or closed their gates... until Weatherly's murder. Now, some say they feel less secure.

Their anger is fueled even more by the revelation that Nancy Weatherly was shot, even though she cooperated with the intruders in her home.

Soliz and Ramos face capital murder charges in Fort Worth and Johnson County. They're being held on more than $2 million bond each.
